MĀTOU MAHI – WHAT WE DO

The Joan Macdonald Treaty Educational Resource Trust gives small grants:

  • To develop resources and group activities about Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Māori text of the Treaty of Waitangi), He Wakaputanga o Te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni (The Declaration of Independence) and the history of colonisation in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • To develop resources and group activities about decolonisation and Tiriti-based futures in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • To train and support facilitators in using Te Tiriti and decolonisation resources with their groups and communities.

WHAT WE FUND

We fund groups to brainstorm, design, trial, record and publish educational resources about Te Tiriti, He Wakaputanga, colonisation and decolonisation.
We fund training in the use of these educational resources.
Resources can be in diverse formats such as print, images, videos, discussion material, and so on.

The Joan Macdonald Trust supports those keen to develop education and discussion resources for diverse communities, language and age groups in Aotearoa New Zealand.

WHAT WE DO NOT FUND

We do not fund the delivery of Treaty workshops. These are a popular form of community, adult and organisational education.

We do not fund infrastructure costs for organisations.

Major funders should be approached for these costs, such as

  • Lotteries Community Grants
  • Community Organisation Grants (COGS),
  • Community Boards and City Councils
  • Community Learning Aotearoa New Zealand (CLANZ),
  • Adult and Community Education (ACE)
  • Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP)
  • Ethnic Communities Development Fund (Department of Internal Affairs)
  • and other funders and education providers
